Our clients had purchased a newer property with a characterless garden, although a good size, the area lacked visual depth and was time consuming for our clients to maintain. They came to Foras with an open mind and were happy to be guided by our design team.
What was the brief?
They wanted a space which kept planting controlled in beds or planters with a small lawn. They also required an area for dining and a separate one for relaxing, with a water feature and a cooking area. The garden was bordered by a wall, the house and the garage which created an enclosed space. The brief was to make the garden appear larger and lighter than it really is.
The clients desired a cool colour palette using mainly grey/blue tones, with only porcelain products for ease of maintenance. They also wanted to work in metal panelling with a pergola for added visual interest.
Our design solution
During a creative consultation Serena Stone porcelain planks and Vasiliki Nepi Decorative tiles were selected as the main materials. From this starting point we went on to design a garden which took into account the levels of the land, by adding a sunken dining area and a raised seating area under the pergola.
Raised beds created a focal point for planting which helped to mask increase privacy and add depth to the scheme. This style of gardening is also easy to maintain and keep under control with a minimum amount of effort.
To bring water and life into the garden a Bliss Trio water feature was placed, creating a striking centrepiece. The rustic hues of the rainbow sandstone spheres draw the red bricks of the house itself into the garden scheme and break up the large area of Serena Stone paving. To complete the design, an Optical sandstone bench adds a sculptural as well as practical element.
The pergola and metal screens were created in collaboration with Foras Trade Partner Urban Skies, an innovative metalworking company based in Bedford.
